Rose Cabat![]() Bottles ("Feelies"), 1964 ceramic, Acquisition Fund Purchase Born 1914, New York, NY; Lives in Tuscon, AZ Rose Cabat was drawn to art as a child. In 1936, she married fellow artist and childhood playmate Erni Cabat. He bought her a membership to the Greenwich Settlement House and encouraged her to take some classes on pottery. Cabat made pots while her children were growing up, but was more interested in raising her family and taking care of her garden. In the 1960s, after her children were raised, Cabat really started expressing herself through pottery. Because she often worked in isolation, her pieces have their own character and do not display the influence of other potters or trends of the time. She is known for her “Feelies,” narrow necked and narrow footed pots covered in multi-hued, textured glazes that resemble garden vegetables. Cabat works and resides in Tucson, Arizona.
